Wichita Community Foundation Awards Grant to Dunbar Theatre

10.27.21

Rounding out its third and final year of issuing grants, the million-dollar Evergy Community Investment Fund spread $380,365 among 13 Wichita nonprofits serving the ZIP codes 67208, 67214 and 67219 — including $48,422 dedicated to the revitalization of the Historic Dunbar Theatre. Additionally, a $10,000 donation went to Tallgrass Film Festival as part of a partnership with the Dunbar.

Other groups receiving funds in this September’s endowment include Wichita Independent Neighborhoods’ Racial Profiling Advisory Board, HumanKind (providing intermediary housing for the unhoused), HopeNet (poverty workshop), Paxton’s Blessing Box (food support for the needy), ICT SOS (safe house for survivors of human trafficking) and numerous other fine organizations.

The Tallgrass partnership will lead to a series of films about the history of the theatre and the McAdams neighborhood, as well as presentations of works by marginalized directors and actors, to be shown at the revived Dunbar Theatre as soon as its doors are once again open to the public.
