The Historic Dunbar Theatre is on its way back from its long slumber thanks in no small part to a series of major donations this year, the latest of which is a generous $20,000 gift from the Kansas Health Foundation. Phase 1 of the renovation project, budgeted at roughly a half-million dollars, is underway now, and when finished will allow the theatre to be used as a community center as more funds are raised to complete the entire plan.
KHF President/CEO Teresa Miller expressed the organization’s rationale for the donation, saying, “What made us excited about this work was the opportunity to re-engage residents in the revitalization of their community, helping to restore an area where they are proud to live, work and play.”
The KHF donation comes quickly on the heels of major gifts by the Wichita Community Foundation and Walmart.
